Simmering Potpourri Recipes

creative dried fruits and spices flat lay

I’ve found these interesting, wonderful and very easy to make, using only common, store-bought items (and most likely, you already have them in your home), so there’s no need to go online to purchase over-priced products that you can easily make yourself.

SIMMERING POTPOURRI:

ORANGE SPICE:
1 orange – sliced
1 lemon – sliced
2-3 cinnamon sticks – leave whole or break into smaller pieces
1-2 star anise
1 tablespoon – whole cloves
4 cups – water

Instructions:

In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced oranges, lemons, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
Reduce the heat and let it simmer. You can keep it on the stove for several hours, adding more water as needed to prevent it from drying out.
This recipe will keep for several days, just keep adding more water.

HERE’S A REALLY EASY ONE!

COFFEE SPLENDOR:

PERFECT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR:

CRANBERRY/ORANGE SPICE:

1 cup cranberries – whole
2-3 teaspoons – whole or ground cloves
2-3 cinnamon sticks – whole or broken into pieces
2 teaspoons – nutmeg
1 sprig – rosemary

Instructions: Combine together in a saucepan and simmer, adding water as necessary. This should also last 3-4 days.

MOST OF ALL, THESE RECIPES ARE CERTAINLY NOT EXACT. FEEL FREE TO EXPERIMENT WITH DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS. IF USING A SAUCEPAN ON THE STOVETOP MAKES YOU NERVOUS, LOOK ONLINE FOR A SIMMERPOT WITH A “TIMER” THAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF AFTER A SET AMOUNT OF TIME.
