The FDA has approved prescription-strength benzyl alcohol lotion (5%) to treat head lice in patients aged 6 months and older. Used as a photographic developer for color movie films, dyeing nylon filament, textiles, and sheet plastics. Also, a solvent for dyestuffs, cellulose esters, casein, waxes, etc., bacteriostat, emulsions, ball point pen ink, stencil inks, and the preparation of alkoxides.
