Add vibrant color anywhere you need a powdered coloring agent. Start with 0.02% to 5% of your total batch volume. Begin with the lowest amount and increase gradually until you achieve the desired shade. A little goes a long way, and you can always add more if needed. Mix colors together to create unlimited custom shades.

FD&C Lake dyes perform especially well in chocolates and other oil-based products. They also work well in dry cake mixes, tablet powders, nutritional supplements, and other formulations that must remain water-free.

Use sparingly, as the dye may stain clothing, hands, or your mouth.

Please Note: We sell all dry ingredients by weight, not by volume. Because each color has a different density, you may receive slightly more or less product by volume from one color to another, even though every package contains the correct weight.

What is a Lake dye, you might ask?

A Lake dye is an insoluble material that tints by dispersion and are produced by coloring an aluminum salt (not an elemental aluminum) substrate using FD&C dyes. They disperse easily in dry powders, cake mixes, oils and fats and the color of the dye is going to be the color of your end product. Lake dyes are best used in making tablets, sugars, icing and cosmetics, including lipstick, rouge, eye shadows and powders.

Did you know that any dye is considered “artificial”, unless it’s a “plant based” dye?
