Our FDC powdered dyes are FOOD, DRUG AND COSMETIC GRADE and can be used anywhere a powdered coloring agent is desired THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH WATER. A suggested starting amount would be anywhere from .02 – 5 percent of the total volume and work upwards; however, start with a small amount as not much will be needed (and you can always add more), depending on the color desired. Colors can be mixed for unlimited possibilities! FDC dyes can be used in beverages, glossy icings, syrups and gelatin desserts. These FDC dyes can also be used in bath bombs and soaps. Use sparingly as powdered colors may stain clothing, hands, or mouth. NOTE: DRY INGREDIENTS ARE SOLD BY WEIGHT, NOT VOLUME!

What is an FDC powdered dye, you might ask?
They are water-soluble colorants that are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FD&C = Food, Drug & Cosmetic).
Their key traits:  They dissolve completely in water creating a clear, transparent color. They are VERY STRONG (a little goes a long way) and they are typically used in liquids or water-based products. NOTE: THESE DYES CAN ALSO BE USED IN POWDERS for tablet-making or capsules but might need more mixing.

Common uses are for beverages, glossy icings, syrups and gelatin desserts.

And just so you know — ALL dyes are considered “artificial”, unless they are “plant based” dyes.
